Beatboxing is the art of urban vocal percussion — imitating drum sounds and beat patterns using your lips, tongue, mouth, throat and voice. Primarily concerned with creating beats, rhythms and melodies using the mouth, it can also involve singing, vocal scratching, the simulation of horns, strings, sound effects and other musical instruments.

Dharni’s passion for music began at a very young age in 2002 at the age of 15. He introduced beatboxing to Singapore at age 17 by busking on the streets, and it slowly created an awareness after 6 months. From a small group of close friends, his audience on the streets slowly grew in size as his beatboxing technique matured. Clients and enthusiasts started approaching, wanting to know more about Beatboxing. Soon after, performances in major events and places started rolling in.

Dharni also pioneered the beatboxing community in Singapore and inspired people who wanted to learn more. He managed to push for the first Singapore Beatboxing Championships in 2005 organised by 987FM during the Black Eyed Peas concert with the help of contacts and networks. The awareness of this art form has steadily increased since. Dharni has also judged many Beatboxing Competitions in Singapore including the first Singapore Beatboxing Championships held in 2005, Sony Ericsson Beatboxing Competition in 2006 and would be judging the Channel U Asian Beatboxing Championship. He was the opening act for Kanye West Glow In The Dark 2008 concert held in Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Pushing on with resilience, Dharni has received numerous awards for his beatboxing including the coveted 5th place in the world rankings of the worldwide Beatbox Convention championships.
